ACC Athlete Profile

Zach Bogosian, Defensemen Peterborough Petes
Rated Top 3 Overall for the NHL Draft 2008

Zach began his training at the ACC 2 years ago after his agent recommended he start working in a high performance environment.  As an athlete working with the Orr Hockey Group, the ACC was his training facility of choice.  Darren Ferris, Zach’s agent, knew if Zach was going to compete at a high level in the OHL he would need to take his training to a higher level.  Therefore, Zach committed to his training and the ACC – he drives 2 hours each way every morning to be the first athlete through the doors to train.

Zach is blessed with great genetics from a strength and speed perspective as his father Ike was a starting safety with University of Syracuse Orangemen.  At the ACC, Zach had been exposed to different training methods to harness those genetic gifts.  Zach’s program has focused on functional strength and power and how to harness that power through his hips and torso.  There is a strong emphasis placed on ground-based training that teaches Zach how to transfer forces from the ground up through his core to produce maximum power for harder shots,  crushing body checks, and explosive acceleration.

In his first year training at the ACC, Zach had the opportunity to train with Wade Redden and Daniel Alfredsson from the Ottawa Senators, Matt Bradley of the Washington Capitals, and Jason York of the Nashville Predators.  It was great exposure for him to experience conditioning with NHL players of that caliber.  It showed Zach just how hard he had to work to compete with the best in the world.

Zach has been a participant in the ACC on-ice speed and agility sessions for the past two summers.  In 2007, he partnered with Daniel Briere of the Philidelphia Flyers for many on ice drills.  Click here to see some of the unique on ice drills we put our athletes through.  It was a motivating experience for Zach being able to skate with a player of Daniel’s caliber.

Through Zach’s continued focused effort on training, discipline on the ice, and being the best player he can be, he has worked his way up the NHL Central Scouting Bureau’s rankings to become a top 3 overall pick.  This summer Zach will be preparing for the NHL combine and then his first NHL camp.  If his effort can be measured by what he has accomplished over the last 2 summers, Zach may just be playing in the NHL come October.  The ACC is happy to help Zach work towards his professional goals and wishes him well on his journey to the NHL.
