New Group Fitness Programs for you!
Are you suffering from the February blahs? The ones that creep in as the snow creeps up your leg... you long for the sunshine, and just need something to help break you out of your funk? Physical fitness is one of the best ways to beat the winter doldrums and pass the time until the sunny summer is back. Physical activity contributes to better health, better posture and balance, weight control, stronger muscles and bones, and reduction of stress.
Beginning in early February, the Athletic Conditioning Center (ACC) will be holding spinning, yoga, and group strength classes in the Ben Franklin Park Superdome. Spinning is an aerobic activity that takes place on a specialized stationary bike. During the class you will vary your pace – sometimes pedaling as fast as possible, other times increasing the tension on the wheel and pedaling slowly from a standing position. Spinning classes are great for your aerobic system (heart and lungs) as well as working strength in your leg muscles!
A group strength training class will be offered on Wednesday nights. These classes will be focused on working you out from top to bottom. You will work on toning and sculpting major muscles of your body, leaving you lean and fit!
Do you find you are stressed out on Friday nights after a long week? Yoga offers you a way to release all of that tension that has built up during the week. Many people think yoga is just stretching, yet it is so much more. While stretching is involved, yoga is about creating balance in the body through the development of strength and flexibility.
The following are the available classes, times and cost:
- Spinning Mondays 5:15 to 6:15 pm, May 5 to July 28 (12 classes) no class May 19
- Spinning Tuesdays 9:15 to 10:00 am, May 6 to July 29 (12 classes) no class July 1
- Spinning Wednesdays 5:00 to 6:00 pm, May 7 to July 23 (12 classes)
- Yoga Mondays 6:30 to 7:30 pm, May 5 to July 28 (12 classes) no class May 19
- Yoga Wednesdays 11:00 to 12:00 pm, May 7 to July 23 (12 classes)
- Strength Training Wednesdays 7:00 to 8:00 pm, May 7 to July 23 (12 classes)
