The ACC Internship Program

The Athletic Conditioning Centre (ACC) has been meeting the strength and conditioning needs of Ottawa area athletes who seek higher performance for the past several years.  What separates the ACC from the standard fitness facility is our qualified strength and conditioning coaches, cutting edge assessment and program design, a facility and equipment that is like no other in the National Capital Region.  Under the guidance of former NHL Strength Coach Lorne Goldenberg, the Athletic Conditioning Centre employs highly skilled individuals with various education and certification backgrounds.  In addition to formal education and training, our strength coaches possess years of practical experience partnered with ongoing professional development to remain on the leading edge in providing the highest quality of conditioning programs.

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you and your students to our internship program.  ACC Interns will receive practical knowledge and experience working with high performance athletes and the highest qualified Strength Coaches in the Ottawa area.  In addition to the hands-on learning experience, interns will undergo weekly seminars led by the Strength Coaches in areas such as functional movement screening, manual muscle testing, program design and implementation, and ground-based strength training.  Each intern will be able to apply their anatomical and physiological knowledge in a practical and direct manner while fulfilling their time at the ACC.  Potential candidates must be willing to commit to an 8-12 week internship with weekday afternoons and evenings as well as probable weekend availability.  Recognizing the demands associated with being a student, internship hours will be flexible to accommodate interns.

Successful candidates will assist in the implementation of sport specific functional strength training programs of ACC athletes.  Responsibilities include, but not limited to; assisting the Strength and Conditioning Coaches with the design and implementation of sport specific, speed, agility, and conditioning programs.  Additional responsibilities include attending all ACC intern seminars, tracking individual athletic progress, gym facility supervision, daily upkeep, and any other duties assigned by the Strength and Conditioning Coaches.

A strong desire to pursue a career in the strength and conditioning field is required.  Applicants must be working towards or possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Exercise Science or related field and possess a desire to work with high performance athletes.  Additional certifications (CSCS, CFC) are an asset.  Current First Aid/CPR certification is required.  A background in athletics is an asset, but is not necessary.
